Groups

Groups are a great way to feel part of a community. Groups allow members to give each other various types of help, to include non-professional information, which is based on the group members’ own experiences. Groups provide members with a safe space to learn, explore, and share similar issues that could be affecting the member’s health. Groups help members learn coping skills, gain new knowledge, empowerment, and feel a sense of belonging. The groups vary according to the need they are trying to satisfy and the expectations for results. However, it has been found that people who attend groups report feeling less alone, isolated, a decrease in symptoms of anxiety, depression, stress, as well as an increase in motivation, commitment and hope. The group facilitator supervises, assists, supports, encourages, and educates the group members in the hope of helping them achieve their desired goal and / or advance their recovery process. Help provided in the group can take the form of advocacy, evaluation of relevant information, comprehensive evaluation, and establishment of a support and collaboration system with professionals who can contribute resources.

Groups are a great way to help people get the help they need to find direction relevant to the path the individual wants to take to achieve their goals.
